JT Images presents the wedding of Vendredi & Vinh. Calgary Wedding Photography.

I am so pumped to finally share with everyone my last wedding of 2012.  The year couldn’t have ended on better note.  Vendredi (AKA Friday) and Vinh both make me smile.  They are one of the nicest and one of the most unique couples I have met.  They both share the same interests when it comes to stuff like video games and snowboarding, but the most noticeable interest they have, is their love and respect for each other.

We started the day with a lot of energy with the bridesmaids making the groomsmen do a bunch of silly things, including wear briefs over their pants and dancing to Gangnam Style.  It was only after a few other funny games that Vinh was finally allowed to get his bride.  After the traditional chinese tea ceremony, we headed down to the First Baptist Church in the beltline.  Ryan and I got to the church early to go scout the place out.  Wow, this church was huge!!  We found a lot of cool nooks and crannies. Good light was hard to find for portraits of Friday and Vinh, but as always, we made it work!

The ceremony was really nice and had a lot of Filipino traditions.  The vows were excellent, sweet and really showed who these 2 really are.  After they sealed their kiss, Friday & Vinh came back up the aisle dancing away.  At this point, I realized the day would be full of silliness, as if the day didn’t start off silly enough!  I was laughing the whole time I was shooting and at the same time I was yelling at Vinh to move out of the way, because we was completely blocking Friday.  We had to see to her moves too!

It was a bit of a chilly day on this November afternoon.  We did some photos outside and then soon we were looking for a place to warm up.  We had planned to shoot on the Peace Bridge for sure, but we needed an indoor location as well.  Friday & Vinh suggested a little place called Jelly Modern Doughnuts.  I had never been there before, but they told me their maple bacon donut was amazing.  We had to go there now, not just to shoot, but also to eat some donuts!  The staff here were very accommodating to us.  Maybe the recognized them as regulars.  We got some really good stuff inside and then it was time to bear the cold and head to the Peace Bridge.  This was the first time I had shot wedding photos on the bridge.  About time if you ask me!

The silliness continued at the reception with their entrances.  The rest of the evening was pretty much the same.  Lots of laughs, some tears and more laughs!

Congrats Friday & Vinh.  Thank you so much for having Ryan and I be a part of your day.  You both are amazing human beings.  You guys are the reason why I love what I do..

Lily and Joe have finally seen their wedding photos and we can finally share some images of their wedding on the blog.  Lily & Joe had their wedding at the Calgary Zoo.  The ceremony was outdoors and even though thundershowers were in the forecast “Johnny Sunshine”  (a nickname given to me by a few of my wedding photographer friends) struck again.  In case some of you didn’t know, I have never had a wedding rain on me in my whole career!  Today was another such example.  Lily & Joe had their ceremony right before the reception, so that meant we had to get first look photos!  Before that happened though, Ryan and I split for only the second time ever.  Ryan went to meet up with Joe for his prep photos, while I shot the girls getting ready.

We stayed in the area around the Hotel Arts where Lily was getting ready for their photos.  We shot most of their portraits down there as well as the wedding party photos.  When it was almost time for the ceremony, we all headed to the Calgary Zoo.  The ceremony was a really nice one on this day with lots of family and friends on hand to witness their nuptials.  The reception was one fun party with many Hoot Booth photos to attest to that.

The wedding was planned by the amazing Sonia Ulmer from Enriched Events, who did a fantastic job!  It was a pleasure to meet and work with the first time, videographer Aydin Odyakmaz from Aydin Productions.

Congrats Lily & Joe!  It was a huge honor to have been a big part of your day.  It was great to get to know you both and hopefully we will be able to get to know each other even better.

Back in July, we drove out from Calgary to the Rimrock Resort in beautiful Banff, AB  to photograph the wedding of Tiffany and Joe.  The Rimrock is an amazing hotel situated on the side of a mountain.  In fact the main lobby is on the 7th floor of the hotel.  The wedding photography was nice and smooth as everything took place right on the Rimrock Resort property.  We did our usual prep coverage as both the bride and groom’s rooms were a buzz with excitement and anticipation.  Shooting Joe was nice and quick.  It took him only 5 minutes to get ready!  Of course that is typical of most grooms.  There was much more going on in Tiffany’s room when we arrived there.  Tiffany was just getting the final touches of make up done and then it was time for her to get into her stunning dress and her Jimmy Choo’s.

The ceremony took place outside on the lawn, with splendid views of  The Rocky Mountains behind them.  It was a picture perfect day with no rain in sight.  The ceremony was short and sweet.  After Tiffany and Joe signed their legal documents, they did their patented kiss in front of all the guest which drew cheers and applause.   After the ceremony we took photos of the wedding party on site and soon after that, we whisked Tiffany and Joe away for their photos at Vermillion Lakes, which of course was stunning!

When we got back to the Rimrock, it was time for the tea ceremony which was pretty quick and then it was party time!  Our digital Calgary photo booth, the Hoot Booth once again made at an appearance at this wedding and the guests were using it all night non stop.

Thank you Tiffany and Joe for trusting us with your big day.  I now see why you chose the Rimrock for your wedding.   It was spectacular!  Congratulations!

Cindy and Dean had a super intimate wedding at the Outback Resort in Vernon, BC.   We flew out from Calgary to join Cindy, Dean and their friends and family day the before wedding.  As soon as we arrived at the resort, we were in awe of how beautiful it was.  Cindy and Dean looked long and hard for a location like this for their wedding. They weren’t kidding when they told me this place was one of a kind.  Their group has rented out several of these million dollar cabins, that were precariously built right on the cliffs, overlooking Okanagan Lake.  Some of these cabins had floor to ceiling windows, with an unbelievable view of the lake and mountains.

The ceremony was held on a little sandy beach just below the main cabin where the reception for 30 people was held.   Ryan and I ran around capturing every single angle we could here.  We had so many places where we could get high, far and close to get great vantage points and angles.

Naturally, we did all the wedding photography right on the Outback Resort site.  With so many nooks, crannies and beautiful scenery it was a no brainer.  After we finished the photography, we went back to the main cabin where there were games and of course, a stunning dinner.  The meal was served up by a private chef who cooked some of the dishes right on site.  We both feel very fortunate to add this experience to our wedding photography careers.  It was truly something very special and different.  I loved the intimacy of this kind of wedding.  We got to hang out with Cindy & Dean’s friends and family for a total of 3 days and it was fantastic.  We felt honored to have been part of the group of 30 people  to have witness their wedding.

Thanks for having us at your wedding.  I am thrilled you love your photos!  I look forward to some Battle of Alberta trash talking. :)

Some of you may remember that awesome e-session I did in the desert just outside Las Vegas Nevada back in February.   That was Kelly and Joey where they both reside now.  I just completed editing their 4 day wedding extravaganza and wow, do we have a lot of memories for them to cherish.  Kelly came to me after her distant cousin Baaj had told her about me.  Baaj is one of my best friends for the last 27 years.  He’s the only friend I have that I have known that long.  At first Kelly was worried her cousin was referring his buddy who was dabbling in photography.  Kelly soon contacted me by email after checking out my website.  And soon we met, but sans Joey.  Joey was in Las Vegas, where he lives and works, but is originally from here… and a big Habs fan too by the way.  So I met with just Kelly and we talked about her big wedding day in Calgary and her photography needs.  She told me all about her big plans.  Typical Sikh weddings span over multiple days, with different ceremonies and rich traditions.  Joey did finally make it back to Calgary and we finally met over a nice brunch at Cora’s.

The first day of shooting was Kelly’s mendhi party.  The house was full of women getting their henna done.  The henna is absolutely gorgeous with very intricate detail.  The second day was Kelly’s maayan ceremony where her friends and family all came to prepare for her to be married the next day followed by feasting and dancing.

On the third day we all met up at the Sikh Temple in Springbank just west of Calgary.  We arrived with Kelly and her family and Kelly headed straight upstairs where she would remain until she is the last person to enter the temple.  Alicia Price joined me on this day to second shoot with me.  We hung out with Kelly and her bridesmaids and shot some photos until Joey arrived.  When Joey finally did arrive, things were about to get started.  I really really dig the traditions Sikhs do when the bride’s side of the family lines up on one side and the groom’s family on the other side.  Even though Joey is not Sikh, today he was.  When the 2 families line up on either side it always looks like something is about to go down to me.  I just love the intensity!  After a few passages were spoken the fathers would then meet in the middle and exchange garlands.   Then Joey’s brother and Kelly’s brother would do the same thing.  Once that tradition was done, the next would begin and that was a breakfast for all the guests.  All this was happening while poor Kelly was waiting upstairs all by herself.

The ceremony in the temple would start after breakfast with Joey going in first and paying respects to the temple.  The guests soon filed in and Kelly came in last.  The Sikh ceremony is much longer than your usual church ceremonies.  Unfortunately for me, I don’t understand Punjabi so I can not elaborate what was said, but I am sure it was beautiful religious passages.  After the ceremony, we all headed back out side for lunch.   During lunch, their guests lined up to give them a monetary gift and blessings.

We then headed to Cochrane to do photos of the newlyweds.  It was Canada Day and Cochrane’s main street outside McKay’s Ice Cream store was packed.  I was thinking, oh no, but then I thought to myself, we can really embrace this.  Kelly & Joey were fully dressed in traditional Indian garbs and I knew this would attract a lot of attention here.  And they sure did.  The way they stood out was too great to ignore.  I knew I had to photograph them in front of McKay’s eating ice cream with the rest of the Canada Day celebrators.  They got of looks and compliments and well wishes from every one there.  It was quite the sight.

Day 4 was the reception day.  The reception took place at the Calgary Polish Canadian Cultural Centre.  But before that, we met K&J at the Hotel Art where they were staying.  Today they would look completely different than the day before.  Joey shaved the beard and took off the turban.  Kelly was in an Indian bridal dress that probably made her feel 50 lbs lighter.   We hung out around the Hotel Arts shooting bride and groom portraits of them before we headed up the wedding reception venue in northeast Calgary.

The reception was filled with awesome speeches, dancing and of course food.  Calgary’s newest digital photo booth, Hoot Booth was setup in the lobby for the guests to entertain themselves and create wacky photos for the bride and groom.

What can I say about Kelly & Joey?  I can’t wait for them to come back to Calgary so we can hang out again.  I feel almost kind of sad they live so far away.  My tickets for the Flames vs Habs are yours if you want them Joey!  I got 3, so we can all go together.  I am so happy to be able to say I have friends that live in Las Vegas now.  When ever I am down, I will be calling you guys to take me to Inn-N-Out Burger! :)

The photos posted below are a mix of images from myself and Alicia Price.
