So I had a great time coming out to Dave and Charlotte‘s workshop and getting to know 7 photographers.  The flight from Calgary to Toronto didn’t come without any bumps though.  Westjet lost my bag, but that’s the risk when you fly standby.  Westjet promptly delivered it the next morning and made things right for me with a nice credit.  I love Westjet, so it was easy to forgive them.  This was the first time ever I had ever lost my bag flying in my whole life.  The feeling sure sucked, but I was pretty confident I would have it back.

Our models for the day were Erin and Angela who were married about 6 months ago.  Of course D+C shot their wedding.  Angela seemed more than happy to get back in her wedding dress to have more photos.  Angela looked stunning as did our 2 other models.  Alana and Vlada.  Alana is new on the scene and this was great opportunity for her to build her portfolio.  She looked great in our wedding dress and was a trooper all day.  We also had professional russian model Vlada.  Vlada is in a league of her own when we did our bridal fashion shoot.  Her posing, look and attitude is what you would expect from a professional model whose resume includes L’Oreal, Diesel, Pure, Coors Light and the Venetian Hotel to name a few.  Without further ado, here are the images.

Jonas gets his first haircut!

January 29th, 2009

Jonas hit another milestone yesterday.  He got his first every real haircut.  I say real because when he was about 5 months old, I buzzed his hair with some clippers to get his messy hair evened up.  Since then, he has not had his haircut and he’s 16 months old now!  Ok, so finally I [...]

Jonas hit another milestone yesterday.  He got his first every real haircut.  I say real because when he was about 5 months old, I buzzed his hair with some clippers to get his messy hair evened up.  Since then, he has not had his haircut and he’s 16 months old now!  Ok, so finally I decided, he really needed a haircut.  I didn’t know how he was going to react, but usually he’s a pretty chillin kid.  Every thing was going well, until the hair dresser sprayed his hair and that when he started to cry.  But all in all, he was a trooper and his haircut looks great.  He looks like a little boy now….. but even more bratty!

When the workshop ended Friday afternoon, it was go time for Michelle and I take see as much of DC as possible.  We went and saw the White House (from a forced distance) when we arrived on Saturday.  Since the workshop ran morning till night during the week, we didn’t get to see much.  We walked quite a bit and Jonas was a little trooper.  Here he is waiting for the metro.

We decided to take advantage of the free walking tour of DC.  It was voted the #1 thing to do in DC.  Our tour guide was awesome and very energetic.  He taught us a lot about the history of the United States.  He works for tips and was worth totally worth.  It was hard trying to stop and take photos while trying to keep up with the group.  One day of site seeing was not enough.  We will definitely go back to DC sometime because we really enjoyed the city quite a bit.  The people were surprisingly friendly and there was just so much to do.  I was disappointed we didn’t get to hit as many museums as I wanted.  The only one we managed was the crime and punishment museum which was awesome.  We have to go back one day soon and bring friends along as well.

The Washington Monument is impressive to say the least.  555 feet straight up to forever immortalize their first president.

Here is the World War II memorial.  All 50 states and their territories are represented and each star on the wall represent a fallen solider.  I believe that’s what our fast talking tour guide said.

The Vietnam War memorial was amazing.  The design, the look, the feel and the impact.  Of course it touches home a bit knowing these soldiers died for my people for our freedom.  I paid my respects with a moment of silence and read as many names as I could before losing my tour group.

The most impressive monument we saw in DC was definitely the Lincoln memorial.  So much history was made here including Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech.  The monument is definitely greek inspired.  But the statue of Abraham Lincoln was a sight to be seen!  WOW!!  It was magnificent.  I could feel his presence when I was in there.  I didn’t know too much about what all Abe did, but after doing some reading, I must say he was quite the man.  Americans could use a man like him again in power.

Time to hop the metro again and go home!!

This wedding was full of energy! I loved it. Lan & Michael booked me sort of last minute, but I am sure glad they did. The day started off the same as usual until the groom’s party came. I was stuck outside shooting them only to realize the bride’s party wouldn’t let them in the house without compensation (chinese tradition where money was given to enter bride’s home). I needed to get inside so that I could shoot the boys coming in. As soon as they opened the door for me, I realized I got used because the boys started to barge in fighting resistance from the inside. I was stuck in the middle!! It was all in good fun as the girls decided if they each did 50 push ups they would be allowed to enter. This is how the wedding started, can you imagine how it must have ended? Thanks Lan & Mike for having me capture your special and crazy fun day with you.
