Jennifer and Jason finally got married on June 26th at the Hyatt in downtown Calgary. The day started as usual with the boys prep, where I met Jason and his boys in their hotel room. Jen had surprised Jason with an Apple iPad as a gift. She told me in advanced she wanted me to get photos of him reading the note she left him on the iPad. It was such a sweet note that I think made Jason’s heart melt. I think he wanted to cry, but his boys were there and you know…. guys don’t do that in front of other guys. After shooting the boys, it was the girl’s turn. I met them a floor away in their room. Their room was a buzz as all the girls were getting ready. I shot Jennifer’s portraits right there on the hotel room bed. She looked absolutely gorgeous with her birdcage veil and her specular dress on. I didn’t want to stop shooting her, but we had to wrap up.

The wedding ceremony took place right at the Hyatt in the same ballroom where the reception would be held. Jason came in like no other groom I have ever seen, giving low fives to all the people sitting in the aisle. Awesome! Jen of course walked down the aisle with her father and you could see the happiness in Jason’s eyes. The ceremony was short and sweet and they left and the same grand way as they entered.

It was a beautiful day on this day and the sun was shining. We walked along Stephen Avenue and it was packed with people. Of course Jen and Jason turned a lot of heads and received a lot of congrats from random strangers. Our first stop was Murietta’s restaurant for some drinks and snacks. We shot some photos of them and their crazy wedding party while we were there. But after that it was down to business. Ryan and I took Jen & Jason away from the chaos that was Stephen Avenue. We saw 4 other weddings down there on that day, and if any of you know me, I always avoid other weddings and crowds of people. We found our own secluded quiet spot downtown that was perfect for some romantic portraits.

When we came back to the Hyatt to shoot the reception details, we saw the most creative seating assignment “chart” we had ever seen. The pictures say it all!

Congrats you guys. I had such an awesome time getting to know you both and being a big part of your day. Your wedding was fabulous and you both looked stunning and gorgeous with each other.

It seems like forever now since Jennifer and Mark booked me and we did their engagement pictures at Confederation Park in Calgary. Mark found me on a forum that I frequent more than I should admit. That awesome forum is Calgary Puck where us hardcore Calgary Flames fan gather and talk hockey. These 2 are the one of the sweetest couples I have met and after our e-session in the fall, I couldn’t wait for their big day. Ryan and I started the day as usual at the groom’s house. We found a cool backdrop that was pretty much a roof on ground level. I know it sounds weird, but when you look at the photo, you’ll see what I mean. Once we finished shooting the boys we headed to Jennifer’s place. When we walked in, she was visibly nervous. Who can blame her? It’s about to finally happen in a few hours!!

The outdoor ceremony was held at the Red Deer Lake Community Centre on a cloudy Saturday afternoon. It had rained all week and I was worried my no rain streak was going to be in jeopardy. But, my “4 year never had to shoot a wedding in the rain” streak continued. The overcast sky gave us beautiful soft light all day. The ceremony was short and very sweet. When it was all said and done, we headed over to Spruce Meadows to do our portraits and we got so much good stuff of this sweet good looking couple.

Congrats Jenn & Mark. May your lives be filled with happiness and good fortune (omg I sounds Asian). Thank you so much for having me be an important part of your special day. I can’t wait to take to you guys to a Flames game when the season starts! Go Flames Go!

Due to huge demand, I have finally decided to do my own workshop here in Calgary. I am very confident I can help those established, new or struggling photographers take it to the next level with their business and skills. I will cover topics like branding, selling, albums, lighting, posing and much more. Right now I am looking at May 9th and 10th, a 2 day workshop. A high end venue has been picked and hot models have been confirmed. Everyone will have time to shoot the models on their own and also watch me shoot. Toronto Wedding Photography Workshop – Calgary Wedding Photographer

So I had a great time coming out to Dave and Charlotte‘s workshop and getting to know 7 photographers. The flight from Calgary to Toronto didn’t come without any bumps though. Westjet lost my bag, but that’s the risk when you fly standby. Westjet promptly delivered it the next morning and made things right for me with a nice credit. I love Westjet, so it was easy to forgive them. This was the first time ever I had ever lost my bag flying in my whole life. The feeling sure sucked, but I was pretty confident I would have it back.

Our models for the day were Erin and Angela who were married about 6 months ago. Of course D+C shot their wedding. Angela seemed more than happy to get back in her wedding dress to have more photos. Angela looked stunning as did our 2 other models. Alana and Vlada. Alana is new on the scene and this was great opportunity for her to build her portfolio. She looked great in our wedding dress and was a trooper all day. We also had professional russian model Vlada. Vlada is in a league of her own when we did our bridal fashion shoot. Her posing, look and attitude is what you would expect from a professional model whose resume includes L’Oreal, Diesel, Pure, Coors Light and the Venetian Hotel to name a few. Jonas gets his first haircut!

Jonas hit another milestone yesterday. He got his first every real haircut. I say real because when he was about 5 months old, I buzzed his hair with some clippers to get his messy hair evened up. Since then, he has not had his haircut and he’s 16 months old now! Ok, so finally I decided, he really needed a haircut. I didn’t know how he was going to react, but usually he’s a pretty chillin kid. Every thing was going well, until the hair dresser sprayed his hair and that when he started to cry. But all in all, he was a trooper and his haircut looks great. He looks like a little boy now….. but even more bratty!
