It seems like forever now since Jennifer and Mark booked me and we did their engagement pictures at Confederation Park in Calgary.  Mark found me on a forum that I frequent more than I should admit.  That awesome forum is Calgary Puck where us hardcore Calgary Flames fan gather and talk hockey.  These 2 are the one of the sweetest couples I have met and after our e-session in the fall, I couldn’t wait for their big day.  Ryan and I started the day as usual at the groom’s house.  We found a cool backdrop that was pretty much a roof on ground level.  I know it sounds weird, but when you look at the photo, you’ll see what I mean.  Once we finished shooting the boys we headed to Jennifer’s place.  When we walked in, she was visibly nervous.  Who can blame her?  It’s about to finally happen in a few hours!!

The outdoor ceremony was held at the Red Deer Lake Community Centre on a cloudy Saturday afternoon.  It had rained all week and I was worried my no rain streak was going to be in jeopardy.  But, my “4 year never had to shoot a wedding in the rain” streak continued.  The overcast sky gave us beautiful soft light all day.  The ceremony was short and very sweet.  When it was all said and done, we headed over to Spruce Meadows to do our portraits and we got so much good stuff of this sweet good looking couple.

Congrats Jenn & Mark.  May your lives be filled with happiness and good fortune (omg I sounds Asian).  Thank you so much for having me be an important part of your special day.  I can’t wait to take to you guys to a Flames game when the season starts! Go Flames Go!

When I met these 2 gorgeous people, I knew I couldn’t wait to photograph their wedding day.  Cindy & Jeff look good together and they are really into each other too!  We went out to one of Calgary’s untouched inner city nature reserves, Nose Hill Park,  to do our wedding photos.  On any given day, you could see deer, foxes, hawks, porcupines, skunks on Nose Hill.  There are even endemic plants that are not found anywhere in the world, except onNose Hill Park.  We took advantage of the foilage and beautiful open spaces.

Cindy & Jeff had one of the best wedding receptions I have been to in the last little while.  The Calgary Polish Center was decorated and transformed into a beautiful banquet hall.  There was lots of dancing, drinking and people having a great time celebrating the union of these 2 awesome people.   Thank you so much for having me at your wedding and creating memories for you.  Congratulations!

Another good friend of mine got married this year.  This time it was Narisa and Jameel’s wedding.  Jameel used to come into my old car shop all the time to buy rims and accessories for his ride.  Jameel owns a sure print here in Calgary and he has printed my brochures, posters and business cards for me.   Through all our business transactions, we also became friends.  Beautiful Narisa’s family runs New York Fashions and in June she graciously lent me a stunning wedding dress for my Calgary Just To Inspire wedding photography workshop.  The wedding was really a 3 day affair, but due to prior commitments I was only able to do the last day coverage for them, which was the most fun anyway!  The day started with us doing our creative wedding photos and in the evening the reception was held at the Carriage House Inn just off of McLeod Trail.  The East Indian food was fantastic and as expected, lots of dancing partying!!  I love East Indian weddings!!  Congrats you guys.  you were both made for each other without a doubt.  You’re gonna make beautiful babies!!  I can’t wait for them!

Lily & Sheldon’s wedding went off without a hitch in Calgary on a very hot August day.  We started the day right at Faith Lutheran Church where Lily put on her beautiful dress.   The turnout for the little church was impressive, as it was filled with close friends and family who were ready to witness L&S get married.   You could see the joy in their eyes as they stood at the alter.  I don’t think they both even stopped smiling.  After a very nice ceremony, we headed out to do our photos.  The first place we stopped was right by the river.  It was a hot day, so there were lots of people floating down the bow and we heard many congrats and cheers for our newlyweds.  After a lot of praises, a truck went by and someone said “sucker” to which all of us had a really good laugh.  I was able to get permission to shoot in an appliance store the day before and we had a ton of fun shooting in there.  We used everything from the fridges, ovens, to washer and dryers to microwaves!  Congrats you guys I hope you love your photos.  You both really deserve each other. :)

Wow, what can I say about these two? Rob found me on Calgarypuck where we both love to talk about our beloved Flames. Just like my wife and I, Tiffany and Rob are a internet dating success story! Rob loved Calgary so much he moved out here from Toronto. It turned out to be a very good decision as he would eventually meet Tiffany. These guys were meant for each other. You can really tell and feel it, and of course their photos exudes it. The minute Ryan and I walked into Tiffany’s bridal prep, she was already all smiles. I don’t think she even stopped smiling the whole time we were there. The ceremony was held at Rafter Six Ranch close to Kananaskis. The wooden chapel was a photographer’s dream come true. The backdrop of the Rockies made it even better. There was so much love in the air that day and it was such a great experience. I really feel I have the best job in world. Total strangers trusting me to capture the most important day of their lives so far. And I get to do it almost every Saturday! I will have to take you guys to another Flames game next season! Congratulations you two. Best of luck in all your endeavors in the future. Here are some of my favorites from the days.

This wedding was really fun for me because Ray and Julie are friends of mine. All his groomsmen I know really well from playing floor hockey with every Sunday. The day started off with the traditional Chinese tea ceremony at Ray’s parents house. It was quite the atmosphere, as there was lots of excitement in the house. The actual wedding ceremony was setup beautifully at Devonian Gardens. Lots of on lookers stopped to see some of the action. Ryan, my second shooter, was with me again and we got some really good multiple angles. It was a good thing J&R decided to have the JT Day session, as time was limited after the ceremony. But we still managed to get some cool shots.

Julie & Ray’s wedding was going to be hectic. They weren’t sure if we would have enough time to go make the images they really wanted for their album. They took advantage of an option I have with my packages, where I will spend about 4 hours shooting just the couple. Most people would choose to shoot the day after or even a few days after. But these 2 were very eager to get it done, plus Hawaii was waiting! I think this option is worth it for any couples who want this done. There is no wedding day stress and we can visit many locations during a shoot. It was so fun, I can’t wait to do this again with the next couple who wants to do it. Come back soon to see the rest of their wedding day photos! Thanks to Michelle for coming along to help hold lights again. I am slowly training her :) .

They got married in the same church and by the same priest as me! What a neat coincidence. After taking some shots in the canola fields, we went downtown. We found some nice shade against a wonderful brick building and shot for a while there. After we left the wedding party, we did some really cool stuff with just Cathy and Steve. Congrats you guys! I hope your lives are blessed with happiness and good fortune!

I did my first ever back to back wedding this weekend.  I am so exhausted, but it was a fun weekend.  Both weddings were exciting and unique in their own way.  I couldn’t have done it without my friend Ryan, who second shot for me.  Ryan comes from the film days of photography and really wanted to shoot weddings again.  He’s weird like me and actually thinks they are fun to shoot.  With the both if us shooting we were able to deliver another angle, that me alone otherwise wouldn’t be able to achieve.  When it was all said and done, we shot about 3750 images total for both wedding.  I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me!!!  Stay tuned for the images from the weddings.  Thanks for your help, Ryan!
