I would like to introduce everyone to Susan and Dobby.  These 2 love birds came to me what seems like forever now when they were looking for a calgary wedding photographer.  One of my cousins is Dobby’s groomsman, so this wedding will almost feel like a family affair.  These 2 are one of the cutest couples ever.  They worked the camera so good for me, just by connecting with each other.  The wedding day photos are going to be awesome.  Check back in September to see their wedding.

Stella and Jackson had their wedding at the beautiful and elegant, Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, in September.  I always love driving out west from Calgary.  The drive to Banff offers some of the most stunning views in Alberta.  I arrived in the morning to meet with Jackson and his groomsmen to photograph them first.  Photographing the boys is always quick and painless and soon, Ryan and I were headed to Stella’s room.  When we got to the suite, which was located in what seemed to be in one of the steeples of the hotel, we were greeted with a room full of buzz and energy.  We quickly photographed Stella’s beautiful jewellery, her wicked red Christian Dior shoes and her absolutely stunning Matthew Christopher bridal dress.  In a room that was full of people and kind of tight, so we opted to photograph Stella’s portraits in the bathroom, where we had nice light and interesting lines.

The wedding ceremony and reception was held in Mount Stephen Hall at the Banff Springs Hotel.  It was fabulously decorated by Angie Spencer and her crew at Get Married in Banff, who also did all the planning for Stella and Jackson.  They did an amazing job and we would never hesitate to recommend Angie and her crew.  The ceremony was really good and emotional for the both of them.  Jackson even wrote his vows in the sports section of a newspaper which drew laughs from many in the room, but tears from Stella.  The good tears.  After the quick ceremony, we were off to shoot the fun stuff.

Our first stop was Lake Minnewanka, which offered stunning vistas.  We worked that area as much as we could then we went for a drive down the road to find more secluded places in the woods to shoot. Once we did as much as we could outside, I wanted to head back to the Banff Springs and take advantage of the beauty the hotel had to offer.

When we got back to the hotel, we entered Mount Stephen Hall again to find it transformed into a reception hall that Angie Spencer and her crew worked tirelessly on.  The grandness of it was just a magnificent treat to the eyes.  As the night went on, the Stella and Jackson and their guests partied like it was 1999.

Calgary’s newest digital photo booth the Hoot Booth made another appearance on this night.  Many of the guests, including the bride and groom, said that the Hoot Booth was the best part of the night for them.  S&J were so thrilled to have so many fun photos of their friends that they even said the next time they have a house party, they want the Hoot Booth there!  Looking at the photos, you can see why!

Congratulations Stella & Jackson.  Ryan and I are very honored to have been your Banff wedding photographers and be a big part of your wedding day.  Your love for each other is inspiring and you guys look so good with each other.  I am thrilled you love your photos as much as I do and I look forward to coming over to help you put on art pieces of you guys on your wall.  Thank you for being a part of our lives with your kindness, sincerity and enthusiasm.

Jennifer and Jason finally got married on June 26th at the Hyatt in downtown Calgary.  The day started as usual with the boys prep, where I met Jason and his boys in their hotel room.  Jen had surprised Jason with an Apple iPad as a gift.  She told me in advanced she wanted me to get photos of him reading the note she left him on the iPad.  It was such a sweet note that I think made Jason’s heart melt.  I think he wanted to cry, but his boys were there and you know…. guys don’t do that in front of other guys.  After shooting the boys, it was the girl’s turn.  I met them a floor away in their room.  Their room was a buzz as all the girls were getting ready.  I shot Jennifer’s portraits right there on the hotel room bed.  She looked absolutely gorgeous with her birdcage veil and her specular dress on.  I didn’t want to stop shooting her, but we had to wrap up.

The wedding ceremony took place right at the Hyatt in the same ballroom where the reception would be held.  Jason came in like no other groom I have ever seen, giving low fives to all the people sitting in the aisle.  Awesome!  Jen of course walked down the aisle with her father and you could see the happiness in Jason’s eyes.  The ceremony was short and sweet and they left and the same grand way as they entered.

It was a beautiful day on this day and the sun was shining.  We walked along Stephen Avenue and it was packed with people.  Of course Jen and Jason turned a lot of heads and received a lot of congrats from random strangers.  Our first stop was Murietta’s restaurant for some drinks and snacks.  We shot some photos of them and their crazy wedding party while we were there.  But after that it was down to business.  Ryan and I took Jen & Jason away from the chaos that was Stephen Avenue.  We saw 4 other weddings down there on that day, and if any of you know me, I always avoid other weddings and crowds of people. We found our own secluded quiet spot downtown that was perfect for some romantic portraits.

When we came back to the Hyatt to shoot the reception details, we saw the most creative seating assignment “chart” we had ever seen.  The pictures say it all!

Congrats you guys.  I had such an awesome time getting to know you both and being a big part of your day.  Your wedding was fabulous and you both looked stunning and gorgeous with each other.

This past week I had 4 awesome albums arrive from Finao and I had to take some photos to show all of you.  One album was Sowon and Dean’s whose wedding I did the photography for in Edmonton.  Another album has been shipped off to Amsterdam in the Netherlands for Jillian and Rob who had their destination wedding in beautiful Banff.  I took drive around Calgary and hand delivered Crystal and Ali’s and Jenn and Khang’s wedding album to them personally.  There’s nothing better than when a couple sees their finished album for the first time.  These albums are the end product of all the hard work we put into the photography.  From the minute the client meets me for a consultation, I show them and tell them how important an album is and how it will last a life time.  Sometimes it’s hard for people to imagine or understand what I mean, until they see their own album in their hands.  That’s when they realized the money they invested into me becomes priceless.

With so many cover options that I can offer with Finao, every wedding album is unique.  Every couple chooses different covers and leathers that fit their style and leave the design to me!

2009 was amazing! 2010 is shaping up to be even better.

I have been told I need to blog more often, and basically I agree.  I don’t blog as often as I want to, because, well…. my writing sucks and sometimes I just don’t know what to write about that pertains to my work.  But I know it’s going to be good for my rank on google and also to keep my faithful followers and fans interested in me.  I have tried to keep this blog strictly for photos and weddings, but I am finding a lot of photographers also use their blog as an extension of themselves.  Talking about everything and anything.  This year I will make an effort to blog as much as I can even if I don’t have wedding photos to share.  I might share with you some cool things I have found on the internet or even some cool iPhone apps.  You might even hear me rant about hockey, we’ll see I guess.  Also, please ignore my frequent incorrect spelling and grammar.  It’s not that I can’t spell or have bad grammar.  It’s just that sometimes I type so fast and proof read even faster that I miss things.

2009 was an amazing year for JT Images and we got to photograph so many beautiful weddings in Calgary, Edmonton and Banff.  I am happy that it is over, because I have been dying to design a year book of my favorite shots from 2009.  This book could end up being 200 pages since I am going to want to include so much.  It will be an awesome book that I can’t wait to share with clients who come see me.  I also would love to make a few copies of this book and give away a few as prizes for my faithful fans out there.  Is this something you guys would like to see?  Please do tell me!  I’ll think of a contest we can do.

So to ring in the new year, I have updated the galleries on the main wedding website.  If you go look in “their stories” you will see 5 brand new stories.  All the stories are some of my favorites from 2009.  The formula is still the same.  I love showing full weddings so that potential clients (maybe you) the consistency of our coverage.  I don’t want to just show you some of my best shots like everyone else.  Anyone who photographs a ton of weddings will always have some nice shots.  I am giving you a look at most of my shots throughout the whole day.  I hope you enjoy them, it was hard to just pick 5 new stories to share when I could have shared about 20!

There… 2 blog posts in one day!  :)

I feel in love with both Jillian and Rob, when I did their engagement photography in Canmore back in December.  Jillian had to book me over the phone because she going to school in Ontario.  Jillian is originally from Grande Prairie, AB and Rob hails from the Netherlands.  They both wanted to get married in our beautiful backyard in Banff, AB at the gorgeous Juniper Inn.  Who can blame them?  This was my first destination wedding even though I didn’t go anywhere.  I don’t remember meeting anyone at the wedding that was from Calgary.  J&R met at a wedding in the Netherlands a few years ago and had along distance relationship since.  But we all know the bond of love is stronger than the best crazy glue.  These 2 were soooooo meant for each other.  They feed off each other’s energy and you can tell they dearly love and miss each other very much.  The connection you see between them is real.  I am so happy for the both of them, now that they can be together and inseparable for the rest of their lives.  I am excited to now say I have friends in the Netherlands that I can visit the next time I am in Amsterdam.

Thank you Jillian and Rob for having me be a part of your huge, huge, huge day!  Your wedding was spectacular down to every detail.  It was amazing to see how many people travelled such long distances to witness your marriage.  I can see why they did.  You both are amazing people.  I wish you all the success and luck in your future endeavours, as you begin your journey together.

Melanie and Rick had their wedding at the awesome Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.  The view from Rick’s room was spectacular as it overlooked Bow Falls.  We shot some photos of Rick and his boys in the room, and then we went off to photograph Melanie and her girls who were getting ready at the Fox Hotel on Banff Avenue.  The wedding ceremony was held on the terrace overlooking Bow Falls.  The views were majestic, and made me realize what grand beauty there is in Banff.  We took advantage of the scenery around Banff and shot in the mountains, town site and the Banff Springs hotel as well of course.  Congrats you guys.  I hope you love your photos as much as I do.  You both looked stunning!
