Day 2 Just To Inspire Workshop | Calgary Photography Workshops

Day 2 wrapped up on Sunday, and after catching up on some stuff for my current clients, I was able to finish some of the images from day 2.  But first and foremost, I want to give a HUGE thanks to everyone that was involved in making this all possible.  We had a total of 7 attendees,  most were already photographing weddings in Calgary and also portrait photographers that needed take their skills and business to the next level.  Thanks for letting me inspire you and trusting me to help you be better at what you love do.  You guys are my first ever JTI alumni, and I will never forget you guys.

I also want to thank the Leanne Whitechurch and the staff at the Hotel Arts for accommodating us.  Your hotel is awesome and hopefully I will get to photograph a Calgary wedding there one day soon.

Narisa Walji at New York Fashions graciously allowed us to borrow a stunning wedding gown that our model Kim wore on the first day.  Thanks so much Narisa!!

We also had Heidi and Star from Derks hooked us up with 2 awesome tux’s for the guys.  If you anyone needs a tux, you have to check out the selection they have at Derks.  You’re guaranteed to find something you like.

Thanks also to Tessa Boutin for doing the makeup for all 3 girls.  You did a great job and I highly recommend Tessa for anything makeup!  I have been lucky enough to work with Tessa a few times.  I did the wedding photography for her friends last year.

Last but not least… our models!!  They worked so hard.  No one really understands how draining modelling can be until they try it.  We worked our models hard, but I am sure they all loved every minute of it.   Without you guys this wouldn’t have been possible.  Thanks so much for volunteering, I love you all so much!

Here are my shots from day 2 (except the first image) of Ginelle and Chris.  These 2 are still as much in love as they were on their wedding day and showed it!  Again, I didn’t shoot as much as I would have loved to, but I had to allow everyone time with our models so they can improve on their photography.

In case you are wondering, I don’t have any plans to do another JTI wedding photography workshop in Calgary anytime soon.  It’s wedding season now and I have to take care all of the awesome clients I have this year.  Hopefully I’ll be back with another JTI workshop sometime later this year and possibly somewhere else… (Vancouver anyone?).

I hope you like the photos!

Day 1 Just To Inspire Workshop | Calgary Photography Workshops

Day 1 of my JTI Calgary wedding photography workshop is now over and I am exhausted but also extremely excited for day 2.  I have the best, eager students ever!!  I hope I didn’t overload them too much with information and techniques.  Day 2 goes tomorrow with Ginelle and Chris as our models.  The people at the Hotel Arts were awesome in accommodating us.  I want to give a huge thanks and big hugs to Kim, Rebecca and Vedran for being awesome models today.  They didn’t complain once!!  I couldn’t have done it without you guys.  And of course I can’t live without my boy Ryan, but we all already know that!  Thanks guys.  Here’s some images I shot from day one.  I didn’t shoot many picture because I really wanted this to be about the students.  Enjoy!!  And oh yeah…. Stunning Kim is Ryan’s wife, sorry boys ;)   Hopefully this is the beginning to having more awesome Calgary wedding photographers.

Just To Inspire Wedding Photography Workshop – Calgary June 13th & 14th, 2009

After a lot of requests from many photographers here and there, I have finally put together my first workshop on my own. In the past several years, I have attended many workshops myself to help me get to where I am today. Without these workshops, I am sure I would still be stuck in a rut. I have been inspired by so many amazing photographers and now I hope to inspire others. I will be bringing a lot of knowledge and experience to my workshop to help fellow photographers get to where they need to go.

It will be a 2 day workshop held on June 13th and 14th at the Hotel Arts downtown Calgary. If you haven’t been to the hotel, it’s simply an amazing venue. The hotel has been completely updated with many great shooting opportunities throughout the hotel. Since it’s in downtown Calgary, we will have lots of opportunity to shoot outside too.

The first day of the workshop we will talk about your goals and how you can get there. We will talk about technique, composition and posing. After that we’ll go shoot our hot and sexy models in and around the hotel. You will get to watch me shoot and then you’ll get a chance to shoot as well.

On day 2, you will bring in your shots from the shoot and we will do a critique. After the critique I will show you my workflow that should help most people spend less time on the computer and more time enjoying life. We will end the day with some business talk. I will cover things like branding, client relations, albums and selling your work. This part will be the part that will help your business grow. I will show you how I have increased my sales with some simple techniques. Once we complete that, we will go on another shoot with a model and this time we will shoot outdoors. I love shooting outdoors, and I will show you how to make amazing images in our surroundings. After the shoot we can all go out for a group dinner or some have some drinks to wind down.

I really want to make my first workshop a successful one so I am putting all my heart and soul into this one. I am limiting the workshop to 12 photographers to ensure everyone has a chance to shoot and ask questions.

Workshop cost: $750 per photographer
Payment: Visa, MC, Cheque or Cash

MODELS

As of right now I have 4 models confirmed. I expect to add 2 more models so that everyone has ample opportunity to work with our models. When more models are confirmed, it will be updated on this blog.

Day 1 Models:

I am sure most of you have seen Rebecca and Vedran on my website before. They were one of my couples from last year. Rebecca was more than happy to get back in her dress and step in front of the camera again. She also easily convinced Vedran as well. They will be our real life couple whom we will shoot on day 1.

Also on day 1 will be Ginelle! Ginelle mentioned to me she loved being in front of the camera when we worked together. She really wanted to try modeling and wanted to wear her dress again, so the decision was easy to ask her to model for us.

Day 2 Model

Our day 2 model is stunning Kim Beaudin. She has walked the runways of New York and Calgary. Kim has also done ads in Wedding Bells and she is going to be a huge pleasure for every one to work with.

“Just To Inspire” Calgary Wedding Workshops with JTI

Due to huge demand, I have finally decided to do my own workshop here in Calgary.  I am very confident I can help those established, new or struggling photographers take it to the next level with their business and skills.  I will cover topics like branding, selling, albums, lighting, posing and much more. Right now I am looking at May 9th and 10th, a 2 day workshop.  A high end venue has been picked and hot models have been confirmed.   Everyone will have time to shoot the models on their own and also watch me shoot.  This is also a great opportunity for you to add something amazing to your portfolios. If you want to take your business and skills to the next level, please send me an email and I will add you to my list when more information is available.
Email me with your email address by clicking here.

***UPDATE***  The original email link wasn’t working, so if you sent an email anytime before Sunday March 29th 7:50pm, I didn’t receive it.  Please try again now.

Toronto Wedding Photography Workshop – Calgary Wedding Photographer

So I had a great time coming out to Dave and Charlotte’s workshop and getting to know 7 photographers.  The flight from Calgary to Toronto didn’t come without any bumps though.  Westjet lost my bag, but that’s the risk when you fly standby.  Westjet promptly delivered it the next morning and made things right for me with a nice credit.  I love Westjet, so it was easy to forgive them.  This was the first time ever I had ever lost my bag flying in my whole life.  The feeling sure sucked, but I was pretty confident I would have it back.

Our models for the day were Erin and Angela who were married about 6 months ago.  Of course D+C shot their wedding.  Angela seemed more than happy to get back in her wedding dress to have more photos.  Angela looked stunning as did our 2 other models.  Alana and Vlada.  Alana is new on the scene and this was great opportunity for her to build her portfolio.  She looked great in our wedding dress and was a trooper all day.  We also had professional russian model Vlada.  Vlada is in a league of her own when we did our bridal fashion shoot.  Her posing, look and attitude is what you would expect from a professional model whose resume includes L’Oreal, Diesel, Pure, Coors Light and the Venetian Hotel to name a few.  Without further ado, here are the images.

Back from Toronto

This weekend was great.  I just got back into Calgary from Toronto after guest speaking at a wedding photography workshop with Dave & Charlotte.  There were 7 student photographers and it was my first time speaking in front of people talking about some things that have helped me with my business.  After that we went around and shot inside Berkeley Church with 4 of our models.  It was such an amazing feeling knowing that I was able to teach and inspire our student photographers.  I know they came away with much more knowledge to help them with their endeavors.  Thank you all so much for attending.  I will post photos of our shoot tomorrow.  My experience at this workshop should help me with setting up my own one day soon either here in Calgary or somewhere else.  So stay tuned for that.
Dave and I also took time out to check out the old Kodak building which has now been abandoned.  It was one of the most eeriest things I have done in a while, but it was fantastic.  We got some great photos in there and I will post those very soon as well.  We liked it so much we tried to setup a trash the dress and a editorial fashion shoot inside, but our model cancelled the same morning.  Its too bad she cancelled because we would have done some crazy stuff for her portfolio, and it would have helped ours as well.  I have no doubt I will go back to Toronto sometime this year and do a shoot there.  Gotta get there before it’s torn down.

That’s all for now.  I will blog photos from the workshop tomorrow.

Toronto Workshop Announced with Dave & Charlotte

My good friends Dave and Charlotte have invited me to come out to Toronto to say a few words and teach a few tricks at their workshop on March 15th.  I hope to inspire these new photographers just like others have inspired since I found my passion.  The road to get here wasn’t an easy one.  It took a lot of trial and error and lots of money spent on educating myself.  I know I can definitely help others trying to find their place in the crazy world of wedding photography.  If you are in the GTA and want to take part in this workshop, make sure you sign up.  It will be worth every penny and we promise you will come away inspired and full of new ideas.  First part of the day will be mostly about business and then after lunch you will get a chance to shoot models. One model will be experienced and then we will have areal life couple to shoot as well.  you will also be able to see how Dave, Charlotte and myself shoot.  It should be a lot fun!  So, please come out for the day if you are interested, it will be one of the best investments you’ll make for your business.
