Shannon & Edward | Sneak Peek | Calgary Wedding Photography

Here is a quick sneak peek for Shannon and Edward whose wedding we photographed on July 2nd.  Check back in a few days for the full wedding post.

Amber & Aaron 06.12.10. | Calgary Fairmont Palliser Wedding

Amber and Aaron found me on Calgarypuck forums where Aaron and I are avid Flames fans. I got to know Amber and Aaron well over the last little while leading up to their wedding and I absolutely love these two. They had their stunning wedding at downtown Calgary’s Fairmont Palliser Hotel. I met Aaron and his boys in the house he grew up in for his prep photos. It was a neighborhood in Calgary, that in my 30+ years living here, I had never seen. It was a very quiet, older neighborhood where all the lawns were manicured. His boys were a fun bunch so that really set us up for a super fun day. As soon as I got all the photos I needed, I had to go meet Amber at Hedkandi by the Hotel Arts where her hair was getting done. It was a cool looking and hip salon with lots of people there. After we headed to the Palliser to shoot some details including Amber’s stunning dress in their huge suite. When Amber came out with her dress on I was all smiles as she was so gorgeous and made my job so much easier.

The wedding ceremony took place at Sacred Heart Church on 14th street. The ceremony was very nice as we ran around and photographed as many different angles and moments as we could. Amber and Aaron were all smiles through the whole thing, as was expected.

It was shooting time after the ceremony, so we headed back to the Palliser to stay close to their reception. We got some really cool shots of A&A and their wedding party on the parkade by the Calgary Tower. After we shot there, we headed inside to look for some protection from the blistering sun. With a venue like the Palliser, we had to take advantage of the grand beauty of it, so we ran around all over the hotel making photos. It was very easy working with them as their connection was very obvious. They were very much in love with each other.

Amber & Aaron’s wedding theme was inspired by Cirque Du Soleil and man did they ever pull it off with the help of Mary Swaffield and her staff from Lavish – Wedding Planning & Design. There was so many details that I had to get my good friends Shelley and Jeff Weber to come help shoot detail shots for me so nothing was missed. As soon as we all walked into the ballroom our jaws dropped. We could not believe what Lavish had just pulled off. Without a doubt, the most spectacular reception room I have ever seen in my whole life. Nothing was missed when it came to designing this room. The lighting in the room was exquisite. The wedding favors were Mardi Gras masks imported directly from New Orleans for all their guests. They had an ice sculpture made with their initials on it where martins were chilled by pouring through the top of the ice sculpture, coming out at the bottom into a glass. And then, there was the entertainment. The MC was a professional MC and magician. They had a fire breather and contortionist as well. And if that wasn’t enough, they also flew in from Nashville, the famous country band Six West, who kept the entertainment going for their guests.

It was quite the party that night and it looked like every body there was having the time of their lives. Then came the “midnight snack”. Kobe beef sliders, poutine, ginger beef and sweet sour pork all packed in little chinese take out boxes so that people can take it home with them if they chose to.

Congrats Amber and Aaron. Wow, what can I say? Your wedding was nothing like I have ever experienced. I am very thankful to have been a part of this. You guys pulled it off and I am sure your guest will never attend a wedding like that ever again. Let’s go to some Flames games next year! Now below is the most photos I have ever posted from a wedding on my blog. There’s just so much that it had to all be shown!

Jennifer & Jason 06.26.10. | Calgary Hyatt Wedding Photography

Jennifer and Jason finally got married on June 26th at the Hyatt in downtown Calgary.  The day started as usual with the boys prep, where I met Jason and his boys in their hotel room.  Jen had surprised Jason with an Apple iPad as a gift.  She told me in advanced she wanted me to get photos of him reading the note she left him on the iPad.  It was such a sweet note that I think made Jason’s heart melt.  I think he wanted to cry, but his boys were there and you know…. guys don’t do that in front of other guys.  After shooting the boys, it was the girl’s turn.  I met them a floor away in their room.  Their room was a buzz as all the girls were getting ready.  I shot Jennifer’s portraits right there on the hotel room bed.  She looked absolutely gorgeous with her birdcage veil and her specular dress on.  I didn’t want to stop shooting her, but we had to wrap up.

The wedding ceremony took place right at the Hyatt in the same ballroom where the reception would be held.  Jason came in like no other groom I have ever seen, giving low fives to all the people sitting in the aisle.  Awesome!  Jen of course walked down the aisle with her father and you could see the happiness in Jason’s eyes.  The ceremony was short and sweet and they left and the same grand way as they entered.

It was a beautiful day on this day and the sun was shining.  We walked along Stephen Avenue and it was packed with people.  Of course Jen and Jason turned a lot of heads and received a lot of congrats from random strangers.  Our first stop was Murietta’s restaurant for some drinks and snacks.  We shot some photos of them and their crazy wedding party while we were there.  But after that it was down to business.  Ryan and I took Jen & Jason away from the chaos that was Stephen Avenue.  We saw 4 other weddings down there on that day, and if any of you know me, I always avoid other weddings and crowds of people. We found our own secluded quiet spot downtown that was perfect for some romantic portraits.

When we came back to the Hyatt to shoot the reception details, we saw the most creative seating assignment “chart” we had ever seen.  The pictures say it all!

Congrats you guys.  I had such an awesome time getting to know you both and being a big part of your day.  Your wedding was fabulous and you both looked stunning and gorgeous with each other.

Jen & Jason | Sneak Peek | Calgary Hyatt Hotel

Here’s a sneak peek of Jen & Jason’s super fantastic wedding photos a few Saturday’s ago at the Hyatt in downtown Calgary.  Much more to come once their set is done, so make sure you check back!

Amber & Aaron | Fairmont Palliser | Sneak Peek

Amber & Aaron are probably sipping mai tais on the beaches of Thailand right now. As promised, I said I would have a sneak peek up for them while they were on their honeymoon in Asia. They will be back in Calgary in a few weeks and I can’t wait to see them again to show them their wedding photos!  Their wedding was a Cirque De Soleil inspired wedding.  Wait until you see the details Amber and Aaron put into their wedding!  It was spectacular.

Jennifer & Paul | Sneak Peek

Here a couple photos of Jennifer and Paul who had their wedding near De Winton just south of Calgary.  Paul and I go way back and there’s lots of history with us.  More of that when their full wedding set is ready for the blog.  For now, enjoy these 2 shots.  We got some really good stuff of these 2, plus we debut our HootBooth at their wedding.  A user controlled photo booth that the guests used and took hundreds of hilarious photos.

Michelle and Shaun 02.06.10. | St. Mary’s Cathedral & Calgary Petroleum Club

Michelle and Shaun decided to stay in the Bahamas for their honeymoon for 3 weeks!!  Lucky ducks!  I don’t blame them at all for not wanting to be in Calgary in the middle of winter.  When they did come back, we were finally able to get together to see their wedding photos.  Michelle told me she had not seen any photos from their wedding yet, even from their guests.  I was more than thrilled that my photos were the first ones they would see.  I had to get some tissue ready for Michelle.  Love it when that happens.

Michelle and Shaun had their ceremony in the amazing St. Mary’s Cathedral close to downtown Calgary.  I have never shot inside this church before but heard so many good things about it.  As soon as I walked in, I looked over at Alicia and said “right on”.  There was tons of natural light flooding in from everywhere and the ceiling was just plain awesome.  It’s definitely one of the nicer churches in Calgary.  The ceremony was a wonderful ceremony attended by many family and close friends.

Once the ceremony was over, Alicia and I decided we would shoot some of our creative portraits right inside the church.  It was a setting that had to be taken advantage of.  Afterwards, we headed to the Calgary Petroleum Club in downtown Calgary.  We shot as many photos as we could without freezing.  The windchill on this day was just bitter cold.  The Petroleum Club was also a great setting for me to finish of our portraits as Alicia went off and shot wicked details photos of the club.

Alicia Price assisted me on this wedding as Ryan was away on a destination wedding of his own in Mexico.

Thanks, Michelle and Shaun, for trusting us with your special day.  I am very lucky to have met such a beautiful couple like yourselves.  You both are the reason why I love my job so much.  You were so easy to work with because it’s obvious how much you both love and respect each other.  I would love to go to another Flames game with you guys before the little one arrives and takes up all your time.  What an huge year 2010 is going to be for you both.  I am so blessed to have been the one chosen to photograph and create these memories for you for the rest of your lives.  I can’t wait to meet the little “mini me”.  Congrats again!!

JT Images Best of 2009 | Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and Banff Wedding Photography

2009 was an amazing year personally for me and for JT Images.  We had the honour of photographing 21 weddings and also did 2 trash the dress and a day after wedding session.  We shot weddings in Calgary, Edmonton, Banff and Red Deer.  Somewhere in there I also did 15 engagement sessions.  On top of that, I hosted my own “Just to Inspire” wedding photography workshop for the first time ever, here in Calgary.  All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family and friends, and especially Ryan, who assisted me on 95% of the weddings.  Muchos gracias, mi amigo!

My biggest thanks goes out to all my wonderful and amazing clients.  I am truly honoured to have been chosen to photograph such an important event in your lives and to be a part of it.  I really hope you will cherish all the wonderful images we made together, for all eternity.  I know I will!

Once I finished the last wedding of the season, I couldn’t wait to get started on my yearbook and this slide show.  My book hasn’t arrived yet, but when it does, I’ll be sure to share that with you all.  But for now, here are the images that made it in the book in a slide show presentation.  It was hard to narrow it down to 140 images, out the tens of thousands that I shot last year, but I did it.  Well, what are you waiting for???  Hit play!

Michelle & Shaun – Sneak Peek – Calgary Petroleum Club

As soon as I got back from my destination wedding in the Dominican Republic, I had to prepare to photograph Michelle and Shaun’s wedding.  Michelle and Shaun booked me not too long ago and when we first met, we clicked immediate.  It also helped they are both huge Calgary Flames fans.  But what really helped was that they are one of the most down to earth people I have had the pleasure of meeting.  They are both soooooo in love with each other and I can’t wait to finish the rest of their images.  They are off to the beautiful Bahamas for their well deserved honeymoon and when they get back I will put up more photos from their wedding here in Calgary.  There are soooo many good ones, and I can’t wait to share.  Shaun emailed me yesterday asking if there would be a sneak peek soon.  Of course I have to tease you guys!

Have a great honeymoon!  See you when you get back!

Meaghan & Craig 12.20.09. | Calgary Golf and Country Club

Meaghan and Craig are two people who are so much in love with each other.  Ever since Meaghan was a little girl, she always knew she wanted to get married around Christmas time.  Christmas was definitely M&C’s favorite time of year and it provided a spectacular feel to their winter wedding.

The day started at Craig and Meaghan’s house, where Craig has been living alone since they bought the place.  All of Craig’s boys were there getting ready and we had some fun photographing them.  The house was still a bit empty, which was a good thing for us wedding photographers.  Afterwards, we went to Meaghan’s parent’s house where we found the girls getting ready.  You could tell Meaghan’s mom was very excited when she was tying up Meaghan’s dress.  I don’t believe I ever stopped seeing her smile the whole time we were there.

The ceremony as held at the beautiful St. Barnabus Church near downtown Calgary.  St. Barbabus has awesome architecture inside and wonderful amounts of natural light flooding in.  Ryan and I took every advantage of that on this day.  The ceremony was lively and full of energy, as expected with M&C.  When it came time for the vows, Craig got down on one knee in front of his bride, which drew a permanent smile of Meaghan’s face and all the friends and family who came to witness.

It was almost already dark by the time the ceremony was over, as this day was the second shortest day of the year.  We headed down to Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary to do our photos and shot around Calgary’s City Hall.  The reception was at the Calgary Golf and Country club, which was an amazing high end venue, with Christmas decorations everywhere.  A perfect setting and ending to M&C’s Christmas wedding.

Congratulations M&C.  You both were truly meant for each other.  I feel very blessed to be the one who was chosen to create memories for the both of you.  I wish you all the best and nothing less.
