Kate and Roy had their wedding here in Calgary at the end of October in grand fashion.  Nothing was spared when it came to making sure their wedding was perfect.  We started the photography at the Delta Hotel in south Calgary, where the whole wedding party was there.  Kate and Roy were staying in rooms next door to each other, so it made photographing the prep much easier.  Kate gorgeous dress was a custom design by  Ines Di Santo.  The dress and cathedral veil was beautifully detailed with Swarovsky crystals.  Roy rocked a luxurious Georgio Armani suit with Prada shoes.

The wedding ceremony was held at St Mark’s Church in NE Calgary, where Kate arrived in style with her parents in a vintage Rolls Royce.  The wedding ceremony had the most well dressed congregation we have ever seen.  After the ceremony, we headed downtown Calgary to shoot photographs of the K&R.  Once we wrapped that up, we headed back to the South Delta Hotel. We finished our photos of the reception room and all the details that Jasmine, and her team from Reflections Wedding Design, had put together.  The room was absolutely amazing.  Not a single detail was spared.  It looked like a wedding that was from a dream, then executed in real life.  It was that amazing.

Congratulations, Kate and Roy!  Thanks for having us there to capture these important memories for you.  Ryan and I wish you both all the best.

Julie & Howard | 10.10.10. | Calgary Wedding Photographer

It seems like forever when I met Julie and Howard for the first time.  They came to me looking a Calgary wedding photographer who was as excited for their wedding as they were.  Their wedding took place on October 10th, 2010 here in Calgary.  A 10.10.10. wedding!  This date happens once every 100 years and on this day, it would be Julie and Howard’s big day.

The day started at Julie & Howard’s home in NW Calgary.  Of course only Julie and her girls were there getting ready.  Soon after all the girls got ready, Howard and his crew had arrived to the house for the tea ceremony.  In true Chinese fashion, the girls didn’t make it easy for Howard to come see his bride.  The first thing the bridesmaids made Howard and the boys do, was eat gummi worms of panties that Howard was wearing.  Yes, that last sentence would be useless without photos, so look below!  They weren’t done after that as they also made the boys spin themselves to dizziness while placing an egg in a bucket without breaking it.  And if that was bad enough, nothing was worst than having to eat marshmallows filled with sriracha hot sauce.   Oh man, pure torture for these boys.  Some of the worst I have ever witnessed.  Once the girls were done having fun with the guys, they let them in.  But before Howard could see his bride, he had to sign an “agreement” that drew many laughs.

Howard finally was able to get Julie, who was hiding upstairs, patiently waiting for her groom.  We all went back downstairs and started the tea ceremony and immediately after that it was ceremony time at the Valley Ridge Golf Course in NW Calgary.  After the ceremony, we stayed and shot a few photos of the bridal party and of course J&H.  Valley Ridge Golf Course is situated in the Bow River valley, which is a beautiful natural area.  There was lots of yellow leaves on the trees and we had a spectacular fall setting to play with.  Once we wrapped up there I took Julie and Howard to downtown Calgary to finish our wedding photography.

Congrats Julie & Howard!  Your wedding was full of energy and the negotiation to see Julie in the morning was something I will always remember!  You guys really worked the camera for us and you both looked amazing in front of our cameras.  I am very happy and proud you both love your wedding photos so much and invested in us.

Another thanks goes to my friend Bao who helped me, last minute, with this wedding.  Thanks for having my back.

I know I mentioned it many times before, but I LOVE working with musicians.  Whenever opportunity arises to shoot photos for them, I am always down for it.  I recently flew down to Los Angeles to shoot photos for Jazz singer/songwriter, Jules Day, who was introduced to me by a mutual friend.  Jules is about to release her second album entitled “Daydreams”.  The photos we did will be in her upcoming album.  We had fun shooting on our set that was created to make it look like it was a loft in New York City.  Afterwards we went to Riverside, CA to shoot outside.  We found an area with an old brick building that we used as our backdrop.  Jules’ voice is so silky smooth and an absolute pleasure to listen to.  When we were done, we went to grab some pizza and I got to know Jules a little better.  I listened to her as she told me about life in Minnesota, where she is from, and her big aspirations which led her to L.A.  It’s only a matter of time before millions of people will know her and I feel pretty lucky to have worked with her.  She has some big things going on with right now that will hopefully make her a household name soon.  Check out her self titled debut album on iTunes.  Buy a couple tracks, you won’t be disappointed.  But, you will end up buying more.

Stella and Jackson had their wedding at the beautiful and elegant, Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, in September.  I always love driving out west from Calgary.  The drive to Banff offers some of the most stunning views in Alberta.  I arrived in the morning to meet with Jackson and his groomsmen to photograph them first.  Photographing the boys is always quick and painless and soon, Ryan and I were headed to Stella’s room.  When we got to the suite, which was located in what seemed to be in one of the steeples of the hotel, we were greeted with a room full of buzz and energy.  We quickly photographed Stella’s beautiful jewellery, her wicked red Christian Dior shoes and her absolutely stunning Matthew Christopher bridal dress.  In a room that was full of people and kind of tight, so we opted to photograph Stella’s portraits in the bathroom, where we had nice light and interesting lines.

The wedding ceremony and reception was held in Mount Stephen Hall at the Banff Springs Hotel.  It was fabulously decorated by Angie Spencer and her crew at Get Married in Banff, who also did all the planning for Stella and Jackson.  They did an amazing job and we would never hesitate to recommend Angie and her crew.  The ceremony was really good and emotional for the both of them.  Jackson even wrote his vows in the sports section of a newspaper which drew laughs from many in the room, but tears from Stella.  The good tears.  After the quick ceremony, we were off to shoot the fun stuff.

Our first stop was Lake Minnewanka, which offered stunning vistas.  We worked that area as much as we could then we went for a drive down the road to find more secluded places in the woods to shoot. Once we did as much as we could outside, I wanted to head back to the Banff Springs and take advantage of the beauty the hotel had to offer.

When we got back to the hotel, we entered Mount Stephen Hall again to find it transformed into a reception hall that Angie Spencer and her crew worked tirelessly on.  The grandness of it was just a magnificent treat to the eyes.  As the night went on, the Stella and Jackson and their guests partied like it was 1999.

Calgary’s newest digital photo booth the Hoot Booth made another appearance on this night.  Many of the guests, including the bride and groom, said that the Hoot Booth was the best part of the night for them.  S&J were so thrilled to have so many fun photos of their friends that they even said the next time they have a house party, they want the Hoot Booth there!  Looking at the photos, you can see why!

Congratulations Stella & Jackson.  Ryan and I are very honored to have been your Banff wedding photographers and be a big part of your wedding day.  Your love for each other is inspiring and you guys look so good with each other.  I am thrilled you love your photos as much as I do and I look forward to coming over to help you put on art pieces of you guys on your wall.  Thank you for being a part of our lives with your kindness, sincerity and enthusiasm.

At the end of August, I had the honor of covering Jenn & Ben’s wedding.  Some of you may remember them from our unique e-session that we shot at the Westjet Hangar at the Calgary International Airport.  Well, they finally got married, but this time Ryan couldn’t make it due to a family emergency, so I called upon my good friend and Calgary family photographer, Bao To to come assist me.  As usual, I started the day off at J&B’s house, which is pretty much down the street from me.  It sure is nice to leave my house 5 mins before I am supposed to be somewhere!  When I arrived all the groomsmen were ready and so was Ben, who was looking mightily handsome.  Once I was done in Panorama Hills, I headed down to Woodbine in south Calgary, where Jenn was getting ready in the house she grew up in.  There, I met up with Bao, and we started doing the coverage of the girls.  The house was a buzz with a lot of energy when we arrived.  After some fun getting ready photos, we had Jenn’s dad wait downstairs.  Jenn then came down and her dad saw her for the first time in her bridal dress in grand fashion!  She looked simply stunning and you can tell on everyone’s face that that was the consensus.

The wedding ceremony was held on a green space behind Jenn’s childhood home in Woodbine.  The weather was perfect for an outdoor ceremony, which was a nice sweet one.  After their vows we headed straight up to Heritage Park, where the wedding reception was being held.  We shot all our photos of J&B and their wedding party right there until reception time.  Their reception was held at the Wainright Hotel in true western fashion.

Jenn & Ben, I had an amazing time covering your wedding and I know Bao did as well.  You guys are truly a match made in heaven.  I am so happy and proud that you love your photos so much.  There’s nothing more a wedding photographer  could ever ask for.  I am so glad you found me and took the leap to book me, otherwise I never would have met you both.  I’m looking forward to more Flames games together!!  Congratulations!

I was asked earlier this year if I would like to be featured on Canadian Talent Farm.  Not knowing what it was I went over to there to check out the website to see what it was all about.  I was very impressed with the diversity on Canadian Talent Farm.  I thought it was going to be another website full of wedding photographers, so I was extremely pleasantly surprised to see talent of all kinds.  I am the only wedding photographer from Calgary featured on there, heck I think I may be the only wedding photographer on there period.  But there are some other amazing photographers on there who are exceptional at what they do.  I also loved watching some of the youtube videos of some of the dancers featured on there, especially the b-boys.  So head on over to Canadian Talent Farm and check out all the amazing talent here in Canada.  And if you want to see me, I am here.  Thanks to Joel for coming to me about being a part of his site.  I am truly humbled to be included on such a great website with other amazing talented Canadians.
